Frequently Asked Questions
- Anyone who is a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada AND has a valid Saskatchewan Health Card is welcome to apply.
- The Kinsmen Foundation will also accept applications from individuals who live in border communities (e.g. Lloydminster, Flin Flon) and do not hold a Saskatchewan Health Card.
- Please refer to the Application Checklist for details.
- The Kinsmen Foundation is a funder of last resort. If you are able to self-fund, crowd-source or have access to other funding programs, please utilize those first.
- Equipment
- The Kinsmen Foundation will consider funding individuals for equipment such as mobility equipment, vehicle conversions, outdoor lifts, adaptive technology, and home accessibility—just to name a few!
- Medical Travel
- The Kinsmen Foundation will consider funding for travel, meals, and accommodations for individuals who are required to access medical treatment outside of their home community, province, or country. The cost of the medical treatment must be covered by Saskatchewan Health.
The Kinsmen Foundation does have an emergency process for funding if unexpected travel is required prior to the next Board meeting. Typically the process takes 3-4 business days from the time a complete application is received.
Applications are reviewed at one of our 9 meetings per year. Applicants are notified the day after the Board meeting as to the Board’s decision by a volunteer Board Rep. Afterwards you will receive formal letter via mail or email.
The two most common reasons for applications not being approved are:
- .The request is not within the Board’s mandate.
- for example: living expenses, medications, consumables, past expenses
- The Kinsmen Foundation is not the funder of last resort.
If the equipment is clean and in good working condition, you are encouraged to donate it to someone else in need. Some places to consider are care homes, hospitals, and community occupational therapy departments.Â
