Equipment
- Special needs equipment and/or mobility equipment
Medical Travel
- Travel, meals, and accommodations for treatments outside of one’s home community, province, or country. The medical treatment cost must be covered by Saskatchewan Health.
Funder of Last Resort
- The Kinsmen Foundation is a funder of last resort. If you are able to self-fund, crowd-source, or have access to other funding programs, please utilize those first.
- Applications are accepted at any time.Â
To be eligible for funding:
- The applicant must have a valid Saskatchewan Health Card number
- Exceptions: Applicants in border communities (e.g., Lloydminster, Flin Flon) may apply with either an Alberta or Manitoba Health Card.
- Â If you were not born in Canada, Proof of Canadian Citizenship, or Permanent Residency is required.
- All Applications:
- Letter of support from the appropriate medical professional. If you are unsure which professional would be required your situation, please contact the Kinsmen Foundation office.

- All household members aged 18+ must provide a copy of their T1 General Income Tax Statement, or Proof of Income Statement from the CRA website for the most recent tax year, or a recent SAID statement.

Equipment Applications
- Quotes
- Two quotes for each piece of equipment from two different medical vendors.
- Quotes for communication devices or adaptive technology must come from SaskAbilities (SAC).
- If your request involves installation or modification to a home:
- Before pictures of the work area.
- Landlord Waiver Form– If your request involves installation or modification to a rental, condo or a property you do not own.
- If urgent or unexpected travel is required and meets the criteria, an emergency process is available. Typically this process takes 2-3 business days from the time a complete application is received.
The most common reasons for applications not being approved are:
- The request is not within the Board’s mandate.
- for example: living expenses, medications, consumables, past expenses, etc.
- The Kinsmen Foundation is not the funder of last resort.
- If the equipment is clean and in good working condition, you are encouraged to donate it to someone else in need. Some places to consider are care homes, hospitals, and community occupational therapy departments.Â
