Statement on Bob McGrath

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our great friend Bob McGrath. Bob was part of the original cast of the first TeleMiracle in 1977 and appeared on the telethon more than 40 times, including a surprise appearance in 2018 and a final appearance by video in 2021.

Bob gave his whole heart in everything he did at TeleMiracle. From singing the fan favourites (Rainbow Connection, Your Face) to taking photos with volunteers, to visiting the locations that benefitted from TeleMiracle donations, Bob was always genuinely happy to be there. You would often catch a tear in his eye as he loved TeleMiracle so much

On-stage, Bob exhibited his incredible talent and true professionalism. No matter who he was speaking to, he had the ability to put others at ease. The other TeleMiracle cast members would watch him, to learn how to host the show in the right way.

Over the years, Bob was named an Honourary Kin member, awarded the 2006 Commemorative Medal for the Centennial of Saskatchewan, and the Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award
in 2013.

He was known and loved across the province as much for his role as TeleMiracle host as he was for Sesame Street. His genuine kindness, warmth and generous spirit touched a generation of TeleMiracle viewers and supporters. He will be greatly missed, but he will forever be lovingly remembered as a treasured part of the TeleMiracle family.
